Alt privacy policy

Last updated October 25, 2026. Alt is a Shopify app published by Goated Apps. It lets merchants sell open-box, returned, refurbished, pre-owned and imperfect items from the original product page. This policy covers the data Alt handles for merchants. Questions: supported@goatedapps.com.

What Alt can access

Alt asks for these Shopify permissions: write_products, write_inventory, read_locations, read_publications, write_publications, write_files, read_themes and read_orders. They let it create and update alternative products and their stock, publish them to your sales channels, upload photos to Shopify files, check that the theme block is placed, and read orders to calculate usage fees and the Sales report.

Order data

Alt reads the line items of orders that contain alternative products: prices, quantities, discounts and refunds. It uses them to calculate its usage fee and to build the Sales report. It does not request or store customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses or payment details. The Sales report is computed when you open it and is not stored.

What Alt stores

Alt runs on Cloudflare Workers, with data in Cloudflare D1 and KV. Cloudflare hosts the app and is our subprocessor. We store:

• Shopify session tokens for your store.
• Your alternative offers: product and variant IDs, tags, taglines, condition notes, prices and publication history.
• Your setup progress.
• CSV import batches. Previews expire after one day and are removed on your next import or when you uninstall.
• A billing ledger of order IDs, matched line item IDs and alternative item amounts, used to calculate usage fees.

Products you create with Alt, and photos you upload through Shopify files, live in your Shopify store. They stay there after you uninstall.

Billing

Shopify bills the usage fee (1% of alternative sales above the first $100 each month) through Shopify App Pricing. For each order, Alt sends Shopify only your shop ID and the alternative sales amount. No customer data is sent.

Your storefront

The Alt theme block shows your published alternatives and adds them to the cart through Shopify. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking on your storefront.

Retention and deletion

When you uninstall, Alt deletes your sessions, offers, versions, condition presets, import batches and setup data. It keeps the billing ledger until Shopify sends its shop redaction request, about 48 hours after uninstall, and then deletes it. Alt responds to Shopify’s customers/data_request, customers/redact and shop/redact webhooks. Because Alt holds no customer personal data, there is nothing to return or erase for a customer request.

Sharing

We do not sell data or use it for advertising. Apart from Shopify and Cloudflare, we share data with no one except where the law requires it.
